All the dance groups within Verchovyna performed at the Melbourne Ukrainian Youth Association 2014 Spring Concert.
For some of our youngest of members, it was their first time performing on stage in front of an audience who greeted the Kinder group with great enthusiasm and loud applause.
The Elementary group dancers performed with style and grace, opening the concert with a traditional Ukrainian “Welcome” dance (Pryvit). This group of dancers also entertained the 200 strong audience with a Hopachok, combining elegant movements with lively steps and twirling solos.
The theatrical performance executed by the Beginners group included a large team of beautiful horses (dancers) wearing colourful feathered head pieces, drawing a cart driven by young Cossacks.
The Primary group dancers flaunted the ‘wild side’ of the very different style of dance from the Bukovyna region with heads shaking, feet stamping and leg raising steps.
The Senior dancers premiered part 1 of their new dance from the Hutsul region. The finale featured a combination of both Intermediate and Senior dancers performing to infectious music and with great energy in the Volyn dance, Huljanochka.
Verchovyna is a Ukrainian Dance Ensemble that also encompasses the spirit of family and community.
